The Joy and Privilege of Membership!

Preparing Your Heart for Worship - March 19, 2017

I’ve really been enjoying our time studying what the Church is. I think this has been a very important series in bringing us all together in understanding who we are as a church, what we are to do, and why we do it.
This week, we’ll be looking at the topic of Church Membership. While most of you are already members, we can better BE the church when we understand not only the joys and privileges
This week, we’ll be looking at “Praying Together.” As we continue to pursue intense, focused exaltation of God, my prayer is that we all come with our hearts prepared to engage in worship with both our minds and our hearts.

It’s truly been a joy to worship together during this time of looking deeper into who we are as a church and all that God has laid out in His Word to guide us in how we are to worship Him in our time together.

Here's the Worship Order for this coming Sunday:

Come, People of the Risen King

“Come, people of the Risen King,
Who delight to bring Him praise;
Come all and tune your hearts to sing
To the Morning Star of grace.”
What better way to begin our time of worshiping our Risen King!!

Prayer of Praise
I always look forward to being led in a prayer praising our awesome God for who He is!

Meditating on God’s Word
One of our members is going to quote ALL of Psalm 103 this Sunday. I can’t wait to hear this - what an encouragement to our Body this is going to be.

Worship through Giving
We’ll get to see a little bit of what our giving to the Annie Armstrong Easter Offering is doing during our offering this week. Be in prayer for the Church @ Affton and Jason Helmbacher, the pastor.

O Church Arise

The call to be the church, to get up, and to wage the spiritual battle that lies before us is one we need to hear regularly. Read through the lyrics of this song here.

Jesus Paid It All

We can never be reminded enough that Jesus did ALL that was necessary for our salvation. We contribute nothing to our salvation except the sin from which we need to be saved. The simple “Jesus paid it all, all to Him I owe, sin has left a crimson stain, He washed it white as snow” line - I really do love singing that line loudly and passionately. What a joy it is to rehearse what He has done for me!

How Deep the Father’s Love for Us

Contintuing the them of what Christ did for us - pay attention to the title and first line of this song - it’s a reminder that Christ died for THE CHURCH!

Sermon: What is Membership?
This sermon is not just for those who are attending and haven’t yet followed through with membership. We’ll all benefit from a deeper understanding of what church membership is and why you should be a member of a local church.

Oh How Good It Is

We’ve only learned this song recently, but the lyrics are a perfect expression of the joy it is to be a part of the Body of Christ. It’s a great expression of who we are to be as a local church. Read through the lyrics and be read to join in singing this song with your brothers and sisters in Christ this Sunday!!!

Sunday Nights @ Fellowship - this Sunday night, we’ll be coming to The Lord’s Table together and our study will be 1 Cointhians
We start at 5:00 and are done by 6:00 p.m.,
We’ll be singing The Solid Rock, Be Thou My Vision, Nothing But the Blood, and Victory in Jesus. Come prepared to celebrate the Gospel with your brothers and sisters as we take the Lord’s Supper and proclaim His Death, burial, and resurrection!

As always, be in prayer for:
• Rex and all those who lead the music in our time together
• Pray that we all come together on Sunday with hearts prepared to engage in intense, focused exaltation of God.
• Pray that we demonstrate holiness, unity, and love in both our personal lives as well as together as the Body.
• Pray for me as I prepare to preach this week.

As always, I can’t wait to gather with y’all this Sunday and celebrate our great God!

Rob
